Early Spring Bi Luo Chun Green Tea 2024 Tasting Notes | Eco-Cha Tea Club
Batch 101 of the Eco-Cha Tea Club is an early spring Bi Luo Chun Green Tea that is actually the very first batch of the year that was produced from our ongoing source in the Sanxia District of New Taipei, Taiwan.
The leaves are very tender leaf buds that are only about 7-10 days into their growth cycle, with almost no stem material. These delicate buds are still coated with their protective "peach fuzz" micro fibers that will become suspended in the brewed tea, and are an integral aspect of the character and profile of Bi Luo Chun tea.
It's a very vibrant, fresh character of tea with a seamless combination of herbal, floral, and vegetal notes. It's just really an elusive flavor profile that has the classic mung bean note which Bi Luo Chun is known for, but also and umami aspect that balances out the mildly bitter, bright fresh green notes.
The brewed leaves exhibit the tender leaf bud material most clearly. About 2/3 of the material is comprised of unfurled buds, and 1/3 is small, young leaf material that had just opened on the newly sprouted spring growth. It is this tender material with the least amount of fiber in its composition that offers such a vibrant and refreshing brew.
