Organic Competition Grade Oolong Tea Tasting Notes | Eco-Cha Tea Club
Batch 69 of the Eco-Cha Tea Club is an Organic Competition Grade Oolong Tea. The source of this tea won Silver Medal Award in last year's competition. We are able to share that tea that they prepared for this year's competition only because event was cancelled due safety regulations during the pandemic.
The source of this batch of tea is a certified organic tea farm in the Yushan High Mountain Tea growing region of southern Nantou County. We started sourcing tea from this farm last year, and are very inspired by the potential we see in this resource.
The leaves were harvested in early May, and processed similarly to a standard High Mountain Oolong, with a bit higher degree of oxidation. They were then roasted delicately to remove any remaining moisture, and to eliminate traces of "raw leaf" flavor. The result is a pleasant balance of fresh High Mountain Oolong character with a mellowed, savory pastry element to the overall flavor profile. Throughout the process of brewing these leaves Gong Fu style, they offer vegetal, herbal, as well as sweeter denser notes — like butternut squash. These notes are rounded out by nutty/woody qualities, like walnut or pecan. It has substance and stamina. In the end, we most appreciate the experience of tea from this source as being exceptionally substantial. It's got roots and flowers and everything in between!
