Tea Cultivars Of Taiwan Flight

This tea flight includes five 75g packs of tea made from three different tea cultivars. It's an opportunity to become familiar with three different types of tea that are unique to Taiwan. They are the strains of tea plants that have been cultivated by Taiwan's Tea Research and Extension Station (TRES), as well as one strain that naturally mutated and was subsequently cultivated for its ability to produce exceptionally prolific yields. Each of these strains has its own distinct flavor characteristics, as well as being suitable for making different types of tea.

The flight includes each of these three most popular Taiwanese tea cultivars in the form of  lightly oxidized, unroasted Oolongs — made in the fashion of Taiwan's famous High Mountain Tea. This allows you to experience the original flavor from each cultivar. There is also a heavy-roast Oolong made from the cultivar that is best suited for this type of tea — Tsui Yu (Tai Cha #13). And finally, a rolled leaf Black Tea made by our source of Traditional Dong Ding Oolong Tea.

75g boxes of the following five distinct Taiwanese teas:

Jin Xuan Oolong - Jin Xuan Oolong is a hybrid cultivar produced by the  Tea Research and Extension Station (TRES) in Taiwan, aka Tai Cha #12 (台茶12號). It is known for its buttery or milky flavor qualities and has a milder astringency and smoother texture.

Tsui Yu Oolong - Tsui Yu Oolong is a hybrid that was registered at the Taiwan Tea Research Extension Station (TRES) in 1981. It was designed for making oolong teas, and is capable of variable oxidation levels. It is known for its flowery aroma which takes on a fruity character if the leaves are roasted post production.

Eco-Farmed Four Seasons Spring Oolong - Around 1981, a Mu Zha tea farmer in Taipei County discovered a naturally occurring hybrid Oolong in his tea garden that proved to be particularly suitable to the climate on Taiwan. Since then, it has gained popularity for its reliable produce and unique flavor and character.

Roasted Tsui Yu Oolong - This tea comes from the most active tea roaster we know. This man enters virtually every oolong tea competition in central Taiwan. He won 3rd Place out of 6,777 entries in the winter 2018 Lugu Farmers' Association Dong Ding Oolong Tea Competition. This is the largest oolong tea competition in the world.

Small Leaf Black Tea - Small leaf types of tea are a result of cultivating and breeding different strains in different regional climates that mostly occurred in China over hundreds of years. Our Small Leaf Black Tea is made from both Qing Xin Oolong and Ying Xiang Tai Cha #20.
