Bi Luo Chun Green Tea Winter 2021 | Eco-Cha Teas
Our early spring 2021 batch of Bi Luo Chun Green Tea was very well received, and despite the fact that we procured much more of it than we had ever procured prior, we sold out by August! We have been patiently awaiting the colder weather toward the end of the growing season to procure our winter batch. Colder nights and increased diurnal temperature variations produce leaves with a more substantial constitution — offering a richer, more full-bodied brew. This winter batch was harvested in early November. Winter tea varies significantly from spring tea in its flavor profile, although it still is very much a Bi Luo Chun in its character.
This batch of winter tea has a more subtle, denser quality to it —with the classic Bi Luo Chun "mung bean fragrance" as they say in the Chinese. It is quite substantial, balanced and has a very refreshing aftertaste. While the early spring tea is exceptionally vibrant in its character, winter tea is more substantial, and has a very satisfying effect.
Just like our spring procurement, we were inspired to purchase the entire batch of tea! We continue to be surprised by how much we enjoy this specialty Green Tea, having been so immersed in Taiwanese Oolongs for decades. It has a distinct character with a substantial flavor profile that does not get boring at all!
The above photo captures our favorite part of doing what we do. An essential part of our mission is to show Taiwan's tea makers that there is a real international interest and appreciation for their craft and their tea. Complementing this role is the ability to share these specialty teas with tea lovers around the world. We feel honored and privileged by the work that we do!
