Eco-Farmed High Mountain Oolong Tea: New Source

Taiwan High Mountain Tea field in the Hehuanshan region

We are excited to announce that we have started working with a new source for our Eco-Farmed High Mountain Oolong Tea. It is a certified organic tea farm at 1450m elevation on He Huan Mountain in Ren Ai Township of Nantou County, Taiwan. This tea garden is managed by a farmer with 30 years of experience in high elevation tea production. He transitioned this 1.2 hectare plot of tea from conventional to organic farm practice 12 years ago. After transitioning to organic, the yield is only half of what was produced by conventional farm practice. This is yet another example of how difficult it is to remain sustainable in organic farming. The market price of his organic produce is less than 25% more than the conventional produce. Half the yield, but only 25% added value on the local market.

The organic farm is only a small fraction of the overall acreage of tea farms managed by this farmer. He is in a partnership with a popular progressive tea merchant who has gained a solid reputation for consistent quality produce. A tea farmer with 30 years of experience in cooperation with a young innovative merchant who is also often in the factory actively participating in the processing of high volumes of high mountain tea is impressive. We have a really good feeling so far about their positive vibe and deeply rooted professionalism. We really look forward to working with them on a seasonal basis for years to come.

Harvesting tea in the Taiwan high mountain tea region

The spring 2026 yield from the organic tea farm yielded just a little more than 250kg. There were two days of harvest to choose from, and we chose the second day, which was slightly more oxidized the the first day. A bit more oxidation offers a smoother, mellower brew of this very fresh vibrant character of lightly oxidized, unroasted high mountain tea. The quality of this organically produced tea meets the standards of the best quality High Mountain Oolong Tea from Taiwan. Last year the tea from this farm achieved top 2% award in the national organic tea competition. Here are the flavor notes we were inspired to put forth in describing this batch of spring tea:
Floral, pastry aroma. Smooth, balanced. Notes of Cheremoya and Asian pear. mildly sweet, clean finish.

We will continue to provide updates on this farm and the people who run it as we get to know them. This is the most rewarding aspect of our work: To meet new farmers and tea producers in the endless exploration of Taiwan's tea industry and local culture. Gratitude.
