Nantou Global Tea Expo 2026

Nantou Global Tea Expo 2026

Taiwan's flagship tea expo is on this week! Running from Oct. 3-11, it is by far the largest and most impressive tea event Taiwan has to offer. Starting in 2010, this is the 17th year in a row, and Eco-Cha has been in attendance every year! In addition to hundreds of tea vendors, there are also all kinds of performances, DIY activities, presentations, and more!

The developments in producing this event over the last 17 years have been quite impressive. It was a huge endeavor from the start, but the improvements in infrastructure and physical layout have made it an amazing venue to explore. The photo above was taken on Monday Oct. 5, after the event was literally inundated with people on the weekend! People come from all over Taiwan and abroad to attend!

We showed up on Monday afternoon to give our organic tea farmer friends a break from serving tea all day in the organic tea hall, which is one of the most popular spots among dozens of well designed spaces with a wide variety of themes. It's was nice to interact with the Taiwanese tea community and share tea stories.

On our second day of attending, we ran into another organic tea farmer friend we hadn't seen in years. Such a lively and inspiring individual! Well into his seventies, managing his plots of organic tea, processing the harvests, roasting the leaves himself, and showing up here to brew tea for the masses. Respect!

We also passed by our neighbor from Bamboo Mountain who manages his family farm in the La La Shan tea growing region in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan. Basically, every 20 steps we took in the main hall of tea vendors, we met someone we know in the vast tea community of producers and merchants that we have immersed ourselves in over the last few decades.

That guy in the middle is the original producer of the event, until his retirement six years ago. Now he is the chairman of the Taiwan Tea Culture Promotion Association(台灣茶文化推廣協會), so he is still active in the Expo as one of Taiwan's leading representatives of tea culture. He also happens to be our tea teacher and adopted big brother. We first visited Tony Lin in his home during winter tea harvest 1993. We have not stopped visiting ever since. Tony and his wife Lisa are the reason we have made our life in tea here in Taiwan.

The younger guy on the left is the manager of a new exhibition hall right in our country town of Zhushan in Nantou County, Taiwan. It's called the Beautea Space in English, 茶美館 in Chinese. It was built by the Wu family, who are the largest manufacturer of tea packaging products in Taiwan. They are sincerely committed to promoting Taiwanese specialty tea on the international platform. As Mr. Wu (the dad) says in the local Taiwanese dialect basically every time he is asked to speak at public events: 台灣茶世界香 which is not easy to translate into English! In our understanding, Mr. Wu is simply saying "Let the fragrance of Taiwan Tea become globally renowned". We completely concur! And we are genuinely encouraged by the altruistic efforts of the Wu family to make this happen!

台灣茶世界香!
