Batch 125 Early Spring Bi Luo Chun Green Tea Tasting Notes | Eco-Cha Tea Club

Batch 125 of the Eco-Cha Tea Club is an early spring Bi Luo Chun Green Tea, harvested on March 3, 2026. Learn more about the origin of this tea in our sourcing blogpost. Bi Luo Chun is unique among Taiwan's broad spectrum of tea types. It is exclusively produced in the Taipei area of northern Taiwan, and has a history dating back to dynastic China.

Bi Luo Chun Green Tea is made from tender young leaf buds that are minimally processed to maintain their vibrant freshness. It is critically important to brew them properly in order to achieve optimal results in the flavor and quality of the brewed tea. We recommend starting with a 1:20 leaf to water ratio when brewing gongfu style in a pot that does not exceed 200mL in volume. If you use a bigger pot, decrease the ratio (e.g. 1:25 for 250mL or more). Secondly, the water temperature should be between 85- 90°C. Thirdly, brew in short intervals starting at 40 seconds for the first brew, 30 seconds for the second brew, and then increase brewing time by 5-10 seconds with each successive brew. Using the gongfu brewing method, these leaves can be brewed at least six times.

Bi Luo Chun brews a clear, limpid tea that looks very delicate, but tastes full. The aroma has fresh snap peas and soft floral notes. The palate is smooth and substantial with a spectrum of flavor notes that range from chamomile to spearmint to savory herbs. These young leaf buds really have a lot to offer when they are treated properly in the brewing process.
