Batch 127 La La Shan High Mountain Oolong Tea | Eco-Cha Tea Club

Batch 127 of the Eco-Cha Tea Club is a Lalashan High Mountain Oolong Tea — spring 2026 harvest. Lalashan is Taiwan's northernmost high mountain tea growing region, located in the Fuxing District of the greater Taoyuan area. It is a remote mountainous region mostly populated by indigenous Taiwanese. Bamboo, fruit and tea farms are scattered throughout these mountains, with a few tourist attractions along the way. This farm is at 1400m on a farm with ideal landscape that was developed over 20 years ago. Check the tasting notes blogpost and video for the full scoop!

Batch 103 of the Eco-Cha Tea Club was also sourced from this farm, and we offered the winter 2021 (Batch 76) harvest as a light roast high mountain tea. We were impressed by the quiet, yet solid mannerism of this third generation tea farmer on our first meeting in 2022. We have appreciated our continued connection with this husband and wife team over the last few years, and are happy to offer another fresh spring batch of tea from an area that stands apart, geographically speaking. It is this geographical distinction which brought our attention to La La Shan in spring 2024. Given that is in northern Taiwan, it received much more rainfall during the spring growing season than the larger high mountain tea producing regions to the south— which didn't get any rain early on in both 2024 and this year. So Lalashan was blessed with much more conducive growing conditions during the spring growing season, and we feel that this is evident in the spring produce from this source.

As we have continued our communication with this source, we've realized that this tea producer is well established, and blessed with some prime real estate for his tea farms. We can see from these photos alone that the landscape is exceptionally flat for a high mountain tea farm, and is surrounded by forest. This is one significant reason why our neighbor's father determined it worthwhile to lease a farm that is a five hour commute from their home, and the son and daughter-in-law dutifully carry on in their father's footsteps.
